INTRODUCTION

December has finally arrived! Winter is just around the corner. The temperature has decreased and the snow has hit the ground. You know what that means? Winter Sports have started! Sports such as Wrestling, swim team, boys and girls hockey, indoor track, boys basketball and girls basketball have all opened up for tryouts. By the time you are reading this tryouts have ended and the jv and varsity team has been put together. Let’s take a deeper look at the jv team itself and goals that were set for themselves.

Goals & Tryouts

Tryouts for girls basketball took place the week of  November 15th. With tryouts happening all the girls had different goals to achieve.  Goals are important. They bring motivation and organization into our life. Bettering us and furthering our achievements. Goals are beneficial to success. We interviewed a few of the freshman players, Sophie Gallivan, Fiona Griffin and Willow Reyen who shared their off season goals with us showing their dedication and hard work.

Sophie Gallivan

“My goals in the off season is to keep getting better because there is always room for improvement”

Fiona Griffin

“My goal for the off season is to get stronger so I can drive to the hoop more and take shots more confidently. Also I would like to work on my running or be able to get less tired during practice and games.”

Willow Reyen

“My goals are to stay active and stay in shape for my other sports.”

Teamwork

Teamwork is a big part of North Reading High School following our teams and clubs. The girls on the NRHS JV basketball team show appreciation to their team and coach with a few kind words.

Sophie Gallivan

“I feel like my team’s performance this season is going really good! My coach this year is very dedicated to the team and the sport and pushes us to get better every practice which is a very good quality. Some shouts I have are for the whole team when we work together good things happen. I love my whole team and everyone just brings a whole different contribution to the team.”

Fiona Griffin

“I feel that my teammates have been trying their best to be the best they can and have made a good addition to the team. In my opinion my coach is good and makes the team work hard but is also supportive and fun.”

Willow Reyen

“Our team is doing pretty well working together with supporting each other and being kind. I have a good relationship with everyone on the team, we are like one big friend group. Our coach is very understanding and patient with the new players.”

Conclusion

Great job to all the players on both the girls jv team and the varsity basketball teams. Amazing teamwork and cooperation.  Huge shout out to the jv team for scoring 12-3. Cheers to a successful rest of the season! Thank you for reading, hope your day’s a slam dunk!
