The month of roses, chocolates, or a combination of both. When everyone is insufferable about their partner – or lack thereof. This season of love has a chokehold on everyone whether they know it or not, filling the air with a sort of aphrodisiac that makes everyone grow a little bolder to just maybe shoot their shot. The Buzz has compiled a list of some of Cupid’s favorite films that will fill your stomach with butterflies and perfect to watch with that special someone.

  1. The Buzz picks…Warm Bodies

This masterpiece of the 2010’s was a part of the holy trinity of strangely romantic entities. Werewolves, vampires, and…zombies. Although the premise may seem creepy or altogether gross, it is surprisingly sweet in nature. Enter R, a zombie with low brain activity who’s surrendered himself to the zombie apocalypse as a corpse who grumbles about his hunger every now and then. His dreary world is flipped upside down after he rescues a human girl named Julie who he concerningly does not want to consume despite everything proven about zombies. Over the course of keeping her safe in his abandoned airport hanger, the two form a connection – more than either of them realize at the time. With R’s brain activity doubling for the first time in years, they discover just what might be the cure for the apocalypse. Their love story is disarmingly innocent and all encompassing, the kind of warm feelings that you get during the first stages of a fleeting crush. And maybe they’ll end up saving the world while they’re at it!

Stars: Nicholas Hoult, Teresa Palmer, Dave Franco, John Malkovich, Lio Tipton

  1. Vintage Find! Notting Hill

Famous actress Anna Scott and lonely shopkeeper William Thacker were one of the most unlikely pairs. Anna Scott in her American world of glamour and press tours and five star films. And sweet British William who was…well, he was just William and he likes books. The story starts how all historically loved rom-com’s start; a Meet Cute. There is an endless supply of these throughout the film, the first when she purchases a book from his quaint store and their interaction leaves enough potential chemistry that leaves the viewer begging for more. The second is the classic One-Spills-Something-On-The-Other which somehow manages to be equally as romantic and kickstarts their effervescent connection. It’s a timeless tale of two unlikely people who manage to find themselves despite their bizarre worlds. Backed up by a hysterical cast of side characters, Hugh Grant and Julia Roberts redefine what a rom-com is supposed to be in this effortlessly realistic story of finding love and holding onto it no matter what others tell you.

Stars: Julia Roberts, Hugh Grant, Rhys Ifans, Hugh Bonneville, & Gina McKee

MPA: PG-13

Rating (IMDb): 7.2

Director: Roger Michell

Awards: 1 BAFTA, 11 wins, & 17 nominations

  1. Family Friendly: The Princess Bride

An absolute gem of a movie, The Princess Bride is the most stereotypical love story of all. No, seriously it is and that’s how they want it. Told from the perspective of a grandfather reading to his grandson in the 80s, we travel into the fairy tale of Buttercup and a farm boy. As children, she ordered him around and he, head over heels, did as she wished. It was only years later that she realized her fondness for him had grown – but evil had struck! Buttercup is taken away to marry the rather dim Prince Humperdink while her lovesick farmboy is tragically killed. What follows is the story of a dashing blonde pirate dressed in all black who kidnaps her from the palace, yet when unmasked yields a sort of heartwarming surprise. The Princess Bride is comedic enough to keep kids entertained and adults laughing at the obvious Monty Python-esque parody style that ensues throughout the swashbuckling narrative. But as God intended, they all live happily ever after.

Stars: Cary Elwes, Robin Wright, Billy Crystal, Maddy Patinkin, & Wallace Shawn

MPA: PG

Rating (IMDb): 8

Director: Rob Reiner

Awards: Nominated for 1 Oscar, 7 wins, & 11 nominations
