Nicknamed “sad girl autumn,” November is on the last leg of the indescribably cozy yet dreary fall season. The rich warm colors of the foliage and sudden craving for pumpkin scented candles can only be coupled with films that feel the same. We’ve curated three top movies that are a lot dramatic, a little sad, and a middle ground for all who love the falling of the leaves and the suddenly orange turn of the month.

  1. The Buzz picks…Little Women

Featuring some of the biggest stars from our generation, Little Women tells the story of sisterhood, love, and loss. With critics raving about it from the get-go in 2019, the movie was an automatic hit and an entertaining watch for anyone who loves Greta Gerwig’s award-winning directorial style. The plot adapted from Louisa May Alcott’s 1868 classic follows the four March sisters Jo, Meg, Amy, and Beth in 19th century Massachusetts as they grow up and define for themselves what it means to be a woman. The close-to-home landscape and comforting familial bonds of the story makes this a perfect movie for a cool November night.

  1. Vintage Find! Dead Poets Society

A timeless story about a group of competitively academic prep school boys, Dead Poets Society captures the insecurity and imperfection of finding your place in the world. Set in 1950’s fictional Welton academy, an eclectic English professor’s unconventional teaching style finds its way into the hearts of these boys, causing ripples throughout their lives. Using poetry as a way to express what may be hard to teach through a textbook, the students learn how to think for themselves and use passion to achieve what makes them feel alive. With the Latin phrase carpe diem engrained in your mind after the film’s credits roll, you too will want to “make your lives extraordinary.” The orange hues of the movie and melancholy Vermont setting make this film a great watch for anyone who’s looking for a chilly fall vibe.

Stars: Robin Williams, Robert Sean Leonard, Ethan Hawke, Josh Charles, & Gale Hansen

  1. Family Friendly: A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving

Who doesn’t love the charming humor of The Peanuts? Our favorite Charlie Brown is planning to attend Turkey Day at his grandmother’s when his friends Peppermint Patty, Marcie, and Franklin pressure him into hosting for them. What ensues next is some comical chaos as Charlie scrambles to put together the perfect Thanksgiving dinner – some may even say it’s an accurate representation of their own homes when the holidays come around. It’s a short and sweet movie that can bring together the whole family and mark the season of football and mashed potatoes.
