This piece was completed at a painting class at MassArt, or the Massachusetts College of Art and Design. The assignment was to interpret and use the style of another artist’s work. The artist Cybele chose to imitate was Thom Minnick, an oil painter whose work can be found on Instagram (@thomminnickart). His style can be described as having large brush strokes and thick layers of paint. The colors are dark and rich, which helps to convey the emotion shown in his pieces. He commonly paints shoes as well. Here, Cybele chose to paint a photo she took of her wearing her Doc Martens when she was at a concert, using acrylic paints. The painting can be seen as just a pair of shoes at face value, but it also represents a memory of a good time she had at a concert.
